There is a question that every brand eventually has to answer, and the honest version of the answer is always more interesting than the marketing version. So here is the honest one.
MELŪ exists because of a feeling I could not shake.
I had been reading about the Indus Valley Civilization for years — not as a scholar, not as an archaeologist, but as someone who kept finding himself pulled back to the same set of facts, the same set of images, the same set of questions. The Harappan cities were the largest urban settlements on earth at their peak. The civilization stretched across an area greater than ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia combined. The people who lived in these cities had standardized weights and measures, sophisticated drainage systems, planned street grids, and a script that connected them across thousands of kilometres. They traded with Mesopotamia, with Central Asia, with the Persian Gulf. They made extraordinary objects — seals, jewellery, sculpture, pottery — with a level of craft that still impresses specialists today.
And almost nobody knows about them.
Not in the way people know about ancient Egypt. Not in the way people know about ancient Greece or Rome. The Harappan world sits in the margins of popular historical consciousness — studied by specialists, mentioned in textbooks, and then passed over for civilizations that left behind more legible records, more dramatic ruins, more famous monuments.
I kept thinking: this is one of the greatest stories in human history. And it is going largely untold.
MELŪ is my attempt to tell it. Not through a museum, not through a documentary, not through a book — but through objects. Through things people wear and carry and display and live with every day. Through the Priest King on a desk. Through the Unicorn Seal on a shelf. Through the Harappan script on a watch dial or a collector pen or a pair of jeans. Through the carnelian necklace that continues a trade route 4,000 years old.
I believe the most powerful way to make someone care about history is to make them hold a piece of it. To make it tactile, personal, and beautiful. To make it something they choose to carry rather than something they are asked to remember.
That is what MELŪ is. A luxury heritage universe built on the conviction that the Indus Valley Civilization is one of the greatest stories never fully told — and that the right objects, made with the right craft and the right intention, can begin to change that.
We are just getting started.
