MELŪ Shawl — Seal Medallion Edition

The Seal Medallion Edition is the most significant piece in the entire MELŪ Scarves and Shawls Collection — and one of the most significant textile pieces MELŪ has produced in Collection 01. On a washed stone grey ground, a large circular Harappan seal medallion is woven into the center of the shawl — a composition that replicates the form of the stamp seals found across Indus Valley excavation sites, in which a sacred animal is surrounded by script characters arranged in a ring. Inside the medallion: a unicorn or sacred animal at center, surrounded by Harappan script in a complete circular inscription, with additional animal figures in the outer ring. Above the medallion, two standing human figures face each other — a motif found repeatedly in Harappan ceremonial seal imagery, believed to represent ritual or civic significance. The stone grey ground gives the medallion embroidery its full legibility — the design reads clearly at distance and rewards inspection up close. Hand-knotted fringe at both ends. Gold-toned border lines run the full length. MELŪ wordmark at hem corner.
