MELŪ Shawl — Indus Figures Edition

The Indus Figures Edition brings the human presence of the Harappan civilization directly into the textile — a shawl on which the people, animals, and symbolic figures of a 4,000-year-old civilization walk in procession along the right border. On an ivory cream ground — the warmest and most luminous colorway in the collection — a vertical panel of Harappan figures is woven in tonal thread: human silhouettes with raised arms in ceremonial postures, deer and sacred animals, the MELŪ asterisk celestial mark, and additional script characters and geometric symbols drawn from documented archaeological sources. The figures are not decorative. Every one of them appears in the archaeological record — on seals, on tablets, on the walls of excavated Harappan structures. They were placed here with research and intention. The ivory cream ground glows in warm light in a way that no other colorway does — it has a natural luminosity that makes the tonal figure embroidery shift between visible and invisible depending on how the light hits it. In direct light the figures appear clearly. In shadow they nearly disappear into the ground. This quality makes the shawl different in every environment. Hand-knotted fringe at both ends.
